Champion Caledonia Road to be offered at auction in November
Caledonia Road, reigning Eclipse Champion Two-Year-Old Filly, will be offered at this year’s Fasig-Tipton November Sale by Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services, agent, it was announced Tuesday. Blake-Albina will consign the Champion filly as a racing/broodmare prospect on behalf of owners Zoom and Fish Stable Inc., Charlie Spiring, and Newtown Anner Stud.
A 3-year-old daughter of leading sire Quality Road, out of the Dixie Union mare Come a Callin, Caledonia Road captured last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) in authoritative fashion in just her third career start.
A winner of three of five lifetime starts, she took her debut as a 2-year-old at Saratoga by nearly three lengths going seven furlongs. She immediately tackled Grade 1 company in her next start, finishing a game second in the Frizette S. (G1) when stretching out to a mile.
Regally bred, Caledonia Road descends from a prolific Janney female family that includes Grade 1 winners Hymn Book and Data Link.
“It is very rare that a filly with Caledonia Road’s credentials comes to public auction,” said consignor Hanzly Albina of Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services. “She is an Eclipse Champion, Breeders’ Cup Champion, and hails from a classic family. She should have broad appeal to leading racing and breeding programs around the globe.”
