Champion Caledonia Road lights up the board at Fasig-Tipton

Caledonia Road, who parlayed a 3 1/4-length win in the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies to an Eclipse Award title, lit up the board Sunday evening at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale.

Offered as a racing or breeding prospect, the daughter of Quality Road hammered for $2.3 million in Lexington, Ky. She was consigned by Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services, and Emmanuel DeSeroux, who works for Japanese interests, signed the ticket.

"I think it's well in line with what we were hoping," said Hanzly Albina.

"We're really happy," added Ron Blake, also with the consignor. "I think the ownership will be really happy too."

Trained throughout her career by Ralph Nicks, Caledonia Road wasn’t quite the same after undergoing surgery to repair a knee chip before her 3-year-old campaign. At age 2, she broke her maiden on debut and  finished second to Separationofpowers in the Frizette (G1) before cementing her championship in the Breeders’ Cup.

"I think she's a unique opportunity this year," Albina said. "Champion. Breeders' Cup winner. You hear those credentials all the time. We wanted to make that clear. The international appeal of her made her special."

Caledonia Road won her return race, an April 29 allowance feature at Belmont Park, but was pulled from training after missing the board June 9 in the Acorn (G1).
