Chamberlain Bridge Enters Shakertown

Carl R. Moore Management’s Chamberlain Bridge, winner of the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G2) at Churchill Downs, is the marquee name among 10 sprinters entered Wednesday for Saturday’s 16th running of the $100,000 Shakertown (G3) at 5½ furlongs on the turf.

The Shakertown, won last year by Stratford Hill, is the 10th race on Saturday’s 12-race card with a 5:44 p.m. post time.

Trained by Bret Calhoun, Chamberlain Bridge will be making his fourth appearance in the Shakertown. The 8-year-old has finished fourth the past two years and was third in the 2009 renewal.

Winner of the Woodford (G3) here in 2008, Chamberlain Bridge will be partnered by regular rider Jamie Theriot and break from post position nine.

Silverton Hill, LLC’s Havelock, winner of the 2011 Woodford here last fall, looms as a major threat to Chamberlain Bridge. Trained by Darrin Miller, Havelock also won the Grade 2 Play the King at Woodbine last summer as well as the Arlington Sprint Handicap. Havelock will be ridden by Joel Rosario and break from post position four.

A first-time U.S. starter in the Shakertown is Herve Barjot’s Surfrider (IRE), a Group 3 winner in France last year. Trained by Eddie Kenneally, Surfrider will break from post position eight under Ramon Dominguez.
