Chad Brown hearing is rescheduled for Sept. 16
Trainer Chad Brown's hearing on charges of criminal obstruction of breathing has been moved to Sept. 16.
An official in the Saratoga City Court Clerk's office said the delay from the originally scheduled Sept. 2 date was requested by Brown's attorney. The postponement initially was reported by BloodHorse.
Brown was arrested at his home in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Aug. 17 after being accused by a woman of choking her.
He appeared in court the next day, entered a not-guilty plea and was released after posting $2,500 in cash to make bail.
During the hearing, Brown's attorney Joseph Gerstenzang claimed the trainer was defending himself from a break-in by the victim, according to a report by Subrina Dhammi of WNYT-TV in Albany. Judge Francine Vero said she did not believe Brown's story, saying, "This court is not in the business of accusing domestic-violence victims."
Brown is the leading trainer at Saratoga's fall meet, which ends Monday. His record for the meet is 172: 38-26-31. He is six wins ahead of Todd Pletcher in second place.
