Centre Court Chases Rare Jenny Wiley Repeat
G. Watts Humphrey Jr.’s Centre Court will attempt to join Intercontinental (GB) (2004-2005) as the only repeat winners in the $300,000 Jenny Wiley (G1) when she takes on nine rivals in the 26th running of the 1 1/16-mile grass test on Saturday.
The Jenny Wiley will be second of three Grade 1 stakes on Saturday’s 12-race program that begins at 12:35 p.m. ET. The Jenny Wiley will go as the 10th race with a 5:13 post time.
Trained by Rusty Arnold, Centre Court returned to the races after a nearly seven-month layoff to win the Honey Fox (G2) at Gulfstream Park on March 15. Julien Leparoux has the mount on Centre Court, who will break from post position 10.
Besides Centre Court, the other Grade 1 winner in the field is Stephanie’s Kitten.
Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Stephanie’s Kitten, who won the 2011 Darley Alcibiades as well as the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G2), got her Grade 1 grass win in last year’s Just A Game at Belmont. Trained by Chad Brown, Stephanie’s Kitten will break from post position two and be ridden by John Velazquez.
The field for the Jenny Wiley, from the inside, is as follows: Kitten’s Point (Edgar Prado, 118 pounds), Stephanie’s Kitten (Velazquez, 118), Emotional Kitten (Victor Espinoza, 120), Abaco (Jose Lezcano, 118), Class Included (Shaun Bridgmohan, 118), Fitful Skies (IRE) (Joe Rocco Jr., 118), Cloud Scapes (Alan Garcia, 118), Discreet Marq (Irad Ortiz Jr., 118), Hard Not to Like (Javier Castellano, 118) and Centre Court (Leparoux, 120).
