Sparkling Style Back on Cushion Track

Sparkling Style will try to add a third stakes win over
California breds at Betfair Hollywood Park when she faces six rivals in the $75,000
Cat’s Cradle Handicap Sunday at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Restricted to fillies and mares bred in California and run
at 7 ½ furlongs over Cushion Track, the Cat’s Cradle is the eighth of nine
races. Post time is 12:30 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood
Park will open at 10 a.m.
Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert for owner Arnold
Zetcher, Sparkling Style has earned all three of her wins in five starts over Cushion
Track. The 4-year-old Badge of Silver filly out of the A.P. Indy mare Decades
of Style is 3-for-8 overall with earnings of $156,202.
Bred by Todd Sheehan and Donald Lindemann, Sparkling Style
has won a stakes on California Gold Rush Day the last two years. She won the
Alphabet Kisses in 2011 before taking the Warren’s
Thoroughbred April 28 in her initial start of 2012.
Owned by breeder Tommy Town Thoroughbreds LLC, Going for a
Spin will be attempting to give Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer his
second Cat’s Cradle win in four years. The trainer scored with U R All That I
Am – who also raced for Tommy Town – in 2009.
A 4-year-old Ministers Wild Cat filly out of the Mr. Greeley
mare Gender Motors, Going for a Spin has won five of 25 and banked $253,752.
One of her two wins at Betfair Hollywood Park
was the Warren’s
Thoroughbred in 2011.
Third in the second division of the California Cup Distaff
in her first race after being claimed for $32,000 Oct. 4, Cayanna returns to a
synthetic surface.
Owned by a partnership that includes Steve Keh, Robert
Richmond and trainer Doug O’Neill, the 4-year-old daughter of Cayoke and the
Starborough mare Just Like That has won three of 16 and earned $202,050.
Willa B Awesome, who followed her surprise victory in the
Grade I Santa Anita Oaks March 31 with a narrow win as the favorite in the
Melair Stakes over Cushion Track April 28, is also going turf to synthetic.
Last in the second division of the Cal Cup Distaff, the
3-year-old Awesome Gambler filly out of the Nineeleven mare Cause I’m Tricky
has won five of 16 while banking $615,896. She’s trained by Walther Solis for a
partnership that includes Phil Daniels, Patsy London, John Winters and breeder
Terry Lovingier.
If successful Sunday, Willa B Awesome would be the fifth 3-year-old
to win the Cat’s Cradle, joining Valentine Dancer (2003), Curiously Sweet
(2007) and U R All That I Am and Tiz Flirtatious.
Magic School returns to the California bred ranks for the
first time finishing sixth in the Solana Beach Handicap Aug. 19 at Del Mar.
Owned by breeder Madeline Auerbach and Little Red Feather
Racing and trained by Barry Abrams, Magic School, a 4-year-old daughter of In
Excess, has won three of 18. Out of the Unusual Heat mare The Usual, Magic School
has a bankroll of $192,476.
Really Elegant will be making her first start since
finishing fifth against $10,000 claimers Aug. 16 at Del Mar. The 6-year-old Cutlass Reality mare
was re-claimed that day by trainer Richard Rosales for owner-breeders Russell
and Shirley Girvin. Out of the Habitony mare Her Elegant Ways, Really Elegant
is 4-for-20 with earnings of $67,170.
Trained by Marcelo Polanco for his brother Carlos, Camille C
will be attempting to end a 20 race losing streak Sunday. The 5-year-old
daughter of Roman Dancer and the Rahy mare Paris Operetta hasn’t won since
leading throughout in the 2010 Melair Stakes nearly 31 months ago. Camille C
has won three of 33 and banked $395,205.
