Catholic Boy confirmed for Claiborne Farm's 2020 stallion roster
Claiborne Farm on Wednesday announced stud fees for a number of stallions for the upcoming 2020 breeding season, including Catholic Boy, a possible Breeders' Cup Classic contender who's confirmed to stand there beginning next year.
Catholic Boy is a dual-surface star with Grade 1 wins on both the dirt and turf. A six-time stakes winner so far, he claimed victories in both the Travers Stakes (G1) and Belmont Derby Invitational (G1) in 2018. By internationally successful sire More Than Ready, Catholic Boy is 1-for-3 in 2019 ahead of the Breeders' Cup.
Also new to Claiborne for 2020 is Demarchelier, by world-renowned sire Dubawi, currently the world's leading sire by percentage of black-type winners. Dubawi is the only British stallion to ever sire 100 Group winners, with 41 Grade/Group 1 winners. Demarchelier will hold the distinction as being the only son of Dubawi standing in Kentucky.
Leading international sire War Front will remain at $250,000 next year to lead Claiborne's roster. War Front has sired 21 Grade 1 winners lifetime, including Omaha Beach and Preakness Stakes winner War of Will in 2019. In addition to his stellar runners on the track, War Front’s yearlings continued to command top dollar in the sales ring this year, bringing prices up to $2.9 million.
