Castro, Prado Involved in Aqueduct Spill

Jockey Eddie Castro, who fell from his horse in the eighth race at Aqueduct Racetrack on Wednesday, was released from Jamaica Hospital Wednesday evening after X-rays and tests revealed no fractures or major injuries.

Jockey Edgar Prado, also involved in the spill, took off his final mount of the day at Aqueduct in race 9, but appeared to escape serious injury.

In race 8, a New York state-bred allowance going six furlongs on the inner track, Reading Group (#1), trained by Ramon Hernandez and piloted by Eddie Castro, was bumped on the far turn by his entrymate, Aheadofthejoneses (#1a), who veered out. The collision unseated Castro, 25, and Aheadofthejoneses, trained by John Kimmel, fell shortly thereafter, unseating jockey Edgar Prado, 43.

Reading Group, a 3-year-old colt, was not injured in the incident, while Aheadofthejoneses, a 3-year-old gelding, bled from the nose and was vanned off the racetrack. Doast (#2), who had been traveling behind the fallen horses, was pulled up and walked off the track.
