Carson City Sires 100th Stakes Winner

Early Return, who set the pace in the F. W. Gaudin Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds Jan. 22, became the 100th stakes winner by deceased stallion Carson City when he captured the six furlong stake in 1:09.51.

Carson City, bred and raced by the late William T. Young, specialized in sprinting as a racehorse. As a 3-year-old in New York, he won the Fall Highweight Handicap (gr. II) under 131 pounds and the Boojum Handicap (gr. III), both at six furlongs. At 2, he captured the Sapling Stakes (gr. II) at Monmouth Park.

As a stallion, Carson City is represented by numerous graded stakes winners, including grade I winners City Zip, City Band, and Carson Hollow. One of his grade II winners, Pollard's Vision, is the sire of 2010 champion 3-year-old filly Blind Luck.
