Carry On John Finishes Fast at Emerald

The classy Carry On John powered to the lead past mid-stretch and notched a 1 ¾-length victory Friday in the $11,900 Les Schwab Purse for older sprinters at Emerald Downs.

With Joe Crispin riding, Carry On John ran six furlongs in 1:08.88 on a fast track and paid $5.60, $4.40 and $2.80. H.R. Pat Mullens is the trainer for owner Ron Crockett Inc.

Warrior Jon, a 19-1 long shot with Leslie Mawing riding, rallied to finish second, a head in front of Rescue Plan. Olympic Lights, the 9-10 betting favorite bidding for his 10th career victory at Emerald Downs, dueled early with Bleu Tarp and faded to finish fifth.

Carry On John stalked in fourth place as the leaders carved out fractions of :22.32 and :44.63 seconds. The winner bid three deep into the stretch, gained the lead a furlong out and won going away.
