Trainer Mike Machowsky said Caracortado, entered in Saturday’s $200,000, Grade II Del Mar Mile on turf and Sunday’s Grade I, $250,000 Pat O’Brien Stakes at 7 furlongs on the main track, will go in the Mile.
“I wanted to see the options, and he’s good at a mile and on the grass, so it was the best,” Machowsky said.
The Del Mar Mile goes as the eighth of nine races on the Saturday card and drew a field of six that also includes 2010 Del Mar Handicap winner Champ Pegasus, 2011 Oceanside Stakes winner Mr. Commons, Wickerr Handicap 1-3 finishers Calimonco and Victory Pete and Northern California invader Our Nautique.
