Calvin Borel's Kentucky Derby trophies, saddle are up for auction
The three Kentucky Derby trophies won by Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel are up for auction at Lelands, a New Jersey-based auction company.
Borel won the Derby with Street Sense in 2007, Mine That Bird in 2009 and Super Saver in 2010. The saddle he used in all three victories also is up for auction.
Bidding on each of the trophies opened at $2,500. At about 11:35 a.m. EDT, the latest bids were $3,661 for both the 2007 and 2010 trophies and $4,027 for the 2009 trophy. Bidding on the saddle also opened at $2,500, and the Lelands website indicated that no bids had been made.
Other Kentucky Derby-related items listed at Lelands include a blue sequin jacket from the estate of Penny Chenery, who owned 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat. There also are authenticated tickets from the 1973 Derby and a collection that includes a 1973 Derby ticket stub, a program signed by winning jockey Ron Turcotte and a Derby souvenir pocket knife.
