For the second week in a row, the California Authority of Racing Fairs canceled Friday racing at the Cal Expo state fair in Sacramento because of a lack of entries.

Racing will be held at the fair on Saturday and Sunday as planned.

CARF racing secretary Tom Doutrich told Daily Racing Form that one contributing factor was that temperatures were forecast in the 100s Thursday and Friday and were expected to be in the 90s Saturday and Sunday.

He also said that the timing of being between Pleasanton and Santa Rosa makes Cal Expo "the toughest meeting of all."

Eight races are on the Saturday card, drawing five to eight horses each.

Racing in Northern California was disrupted by the closure last month of Golden Gate Fields, which offered racing for most of the year. After the fair circuit, an autumn meet is scheduled at Pleasanton.

Doutrich told DRF the Northern California fair circuit has about 800 horses in training.
