C C's Pal one to beat in Lighthouse
Eric Fein’s C C’s Pal has proven her affinity for the Monmouth Park main track, having never finished off the board in five lifetime starts.
On Saturday, the 4-year-old daughter of Alex’s Pal looks to capture her second-consecutive stakes over the local strip as she takes on six other fillies and mares in the $75,000 Lighthouse Stakes.
Trained by Derek Ryan, C C’s Pal will again be ridden by Kendrick Carmouche, who was aboard for her stakes score last out.
William Harris’ Sweet Goodbye defeated C C’s Pal in the $250,000 Sugar Maple at Charles Town in April. The 6-year-old daughter of Louis Quatorze will break from the rail in the Lighthouse and will be ridden by regular rider J.D. Acosta.
Multiple stakes winner R Betty Graybull, a 5-year-old filly by 1994 Haskell winner Holy Bull, enters the Lighthouse off a fifth-place finish in Belmont’s Grade 2 Shuvee. The Linda White trainee finished behind Awesome Maria that day who came back to win last Saturday’s Grade 1 Ogden Phipps.
The remainder of the Lighthouse field includes: Richard Santulli’s Check Point, fourth in the Grade 3 DuPont Distaff at Pimlico last out; Live Oak Plantation’s Successful Song, most recently third behind C C’s Pal in the Monmouth Beach; Farnsworth Stables’ Amazing, who ships up from Calder for trainer Martin Wolfson; and locally-based Debonair Darling from the Gregg Sacco barn.
