Brooklyn Strong is back in consideration for Kentucky Derby
Brooklyn Strong has re-entered consideration for the 2021 Kentucky Derby per his owner Mark Schwartz, according to a news release from Churchill Downs.
The colt is 22nd in the current points standings and needs two defections from the race by entry time on Tuesday in order to make the main field of 20.
Based at Parx and trained by Daniel Velazquez, the colt was a mere $5,000 purchase at the 2020 Ocala Breeders’ 2-year-old sale. He earned his 10 Kentucky Derby points with a win in the Remsen Stakes (G2) in December at Aqueduct.
The Wicked Strong colt most recently finished fifth in the Wood Memorial (G2) on April 3 at Aqueduct.
This week Velazquez had said the colt would be pointed toward the Preakness with an eye also on the Belmont.
Entries for the Derby are due at 11 a.m. EDT on Tuesday.
