Breeders' Cup winner Cy Fair will not go to Royal Ascot
Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Cy Fair will not race at Royal Ascot. She had originally been pointed to the Grade 1 King Charles III Stakes on June 16, a qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.
Medallion Racing, who owns Cy Fair in partnership with Swinbank Stables, Joey Platts and Mark Stanton, announced the change of plans Monday on X. According to the post, trainer George Weaver "felt like she wans't acting her usual self the past few days," missed her final breeze, and did not ship her Sunday. The defection of Cy Fair from the King Charles was previously reported by Olivia Newman of BloodHorse.
Cy Fair, a 3-year-old daughter of Not This Time, has four wins in six career starts. Those include the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint in her graded-stakes debut, as well as the Mamzelle (G3) at Churchill Downs on April 30. In the Mamzelle, she turned the tables on Slay the Day, who ran her down in the Limestone (G3) on April 10 at Keeneland.
Medallion Racing expects Cy Fair to return to the work tab in a week or two. They did not identify a new next-race gal for the filly.
