Breeders’ Cup odds: New Grade 1 winner makes Classic jump

Photo:

Thanks to his victory Saturday at Saratoga in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, Max Player vaulted from a long shot to one of the three shortest-priced horses in international futures for the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

With the Brad Cox duo of Essential Quality (4-1) and Knicks Go (5-1) still its top choices, Bovada in Costa Rica cut Max Player from 14-1 to 7-1 to win the $6 million race Nov. 6 at Del Mar.

Happy Saver, who finished second to Max Player on Saturday, drifted from 7-1 to 9-1. Third-place Forza Di Oro was added to the futures, opening at 10-1.

Turf

Still not certain to be sent from England to Del Mar, three-time Group 1 winner Mishriff is nevertheless the 7-2 favorite to win the Turf. For some reason, Colonel Liam made the biggest jump. Sprint

Three-time Grade 1 victor Jackie’s Warrior has gone from a co-favorite to an outright top choice to win the Sprint. Yaupon, who survived being savaged by Firenze Fire before winning the Forego (G1) on Aug. 28, was cut from 6-1 to 5-1. Nashville, who has not raced or had a timed workout all year, finally started to drift, going from 5-1 to 6-1.

Filly & Mare Turf

Now 6-for-7 in her career, War Like Goddess leaped from 5-1 to become a co-second choice at 11-4 to win the Filly & Mare Turf. England-based Snowfall, who has yet to lose as a 3-year-old, is still the 9-4 favorite. The chestnut colt Gufo is still inexplicably listed at 9-2.

Dirt Mile

Life Is Good was arguably more impressive in his second-place finish to Jackie’s Warrior in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial (G1) than he was in any of his triumphs on the West Coast. Now he is the 3-1 favorite to win the Dirt Mile. Jackie’s Warrior dropped to the second choice at 4-1, no doubt because he is more likely to be entered in the Sprint. Charles Town Classic (G2) winner Art Collector was cut from 8-1 to 6-1. After finishing first in the Shared Belief, Medina Spirit opened at 10-1, although he might yet go in the Classic.

  3-1 (13-4) Life Is Good

Turf Sprint

Bettors appear to be bearish in backing two of trainer Wesley Ward’s 3-year-olds for the Turf Sprint. Favored colt Golden Pal shortened from 3-1 to 5-2 in spite of his seventh-place outcome last month in the Nunthorpe (G1) in England. The filly Campanelle opened at 8-1, even though she was eased to finish last in the Prix de Gheest (G1) on Aug. 8 in France.

  5-2   (3-1) Golden Pal

  7-1   (9-1) Starman

  8-1   ( -- ) Campanelle

25-1 (25-1) Supremacy

Filly & Mare Sprint

There were no changes in the odds for the Filly & Mare Sprint. Ballerina Handicap (G1) victor Gamine, winner of five in a row, is still the heaviest Breeders’ Cup favorite, commanding even money.

  1-1   (1-1) Gamine

  5-2   (5-2) Bella Sofia

13-2 (13-2) Ce Ce

  8-1   (8-1) Souper Sensational
