Breeders' Cup next up for Armed Forces winner Graceful Kitten
Super Super Stable’s Graceful Kitten earned himself a trip to California when remaining undefeated on the turf, going gate-to-wire to win the $75,000 Armed Forces by two lengths Saturday at Gulfstream Park. Jolting Joe rallied up the rail to finish second while Captain D was third.
A 2-year-old son of Kitten’s Joy bred by Sarah and Kenneth Ramsey, Graceful Kitten was taken to the front by jockey Hector Berrios and set fractions of :23.83 and :48.74 before covering the mile turf course in 1:35.92.
Immediately after the race, trainer Amador Sanchez said, “We’re going to try for the big score and go for the Breeders’ Cup (Juvenile) Turf.”
“He’s a good horse,” Sanchez said. “Every time we ask for more he gives us more. He does everything right.”
Jerry is Extrordinary in $150,000 FTBOA Wildcat Heir
Nice Guys Stable’s Extrordinary Jerry lived up to his name Saturday at Gulfstream Park, galloping past his opponents at the head of the stretch and cruising to a 10 ¼ length victory in the $150,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Wildcat Heir.
Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Edgard Zayas, Extrordinary Jerry covered the mile in 1:35.75. A 4-year-old Florida-bred by Overdriven, Extrordinary Jerry entered the Wildcat Heir off a seven-length victory against allowance company Aug. 25 at Saratoga.
The 4-year-old has now won four of 17 starts and is undefeated in two starts at Gulfstream.
While Ice Tea was pressed through quick fractions of :22.49 and :44.75, Zayas rated Extrordinary Jerry behind the speedsters before making a four-wide move entering the stretch and then cruising the length of the stretch.
“Looking at the race, there was a lot of speed, so I didn’t want to get the horse out of his pace,” Zayas said. “I just let him stay where he felt comfortable. It worked out perfectly. When he kicked on, he went by them easily.”
