It was a busy morning Saturday at Churchill Downs with workouts for Breeders' Cup horses, as most hit the track after the midmorning renovation break.
Champagne d'Oro, winner of the Grade I Acorn and Test, was timed by the Churchill clockers going five furlongs in 593/5 seconds —– second-fastest of 34 at the distance —– under Miguel Mena, who will ride the 3-year-old filly in the Filly & Mare Sprint.
Champagne d'Oro finished fourth in Keeneland's Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes over Polytrack in her last start, a surface trainer Eric Guillot said is not her favorite.
“She'll be 10-1 and run like 3-5,” he predicted.
