Breeders' Cup-bound Ombudsman is ranked world's best racehorse
Ombudsman, who won automatic berths in the Breeders' Cup Classic and Breeders' Cup Turf, led the latest rankings of the world's best racehorses after his win in the Group 1 Juddmonte International last out.
The 4-year-old colt trained by John and Thady Gosden has a record of 8:6-2-0, which also includes a victory in the Prince of Wales's (G1). John Gosden said this week that Ombudsman would skip next week's Irish Champion Stakes (G1) and be pointed to Royal Ascot and the Breeders' Cup Turf.
Among U.S.-based horses, Sovereignty is ranked highest, tied for second with Field of Gold and Forever Young. The latter qualified for the Breeders' Cup Classic with his win in the Saudi Cup (G1).
Fierceness is the only other U.S. horse in the top 10. He's in a tie for eighth after his Pacific Classic (G1) win, which earned him a berth in the Breeders' Cup Classic.
Among others tied for eighth, Calandagan's win in the King George Vi & Elizabeth Stakes (G1) and Dan Decile's victory in the Dubai Sheema Classic (G1) give them free berths in the Breeders' Cup Turf.
The rankings are compiled by the world’s best racehorse rankings committee and published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.
