Breeders' Cup Turf 2020: Latest Odds & Preview

It was a good weekend for some U.S.-based Breeders' Cup Turf hopefuls as Channel Maker won his second straight Grade 1 and Gufo used his big stride to capture the Grade 1 Belmont Derby.

Despite their wins, bookmakers continue to discount the chances of U.S.-based hopefuls. Gufo and Channel Maker, the two lowest priced U.S. runners, can be had as high as 16-1.

It is no surprise that Europeans are dominating the market for the Turf, especially because this year's possible runners have world-class credentials.

Aidan O'Brien's Love is the 7/4 early favorite for the Turf. The reason she is such a heavy favorite seems twofold. First, she is immensely talented, having won all three of her Group 1 tests this year. Second, she has been confirmed for the race, while other European stars are only deemed possible.

It is not easy for a 3-year-old filly to come to America and defeat older males, but Love certainly seems up to the task after being removed from Arc consideration specifically to target this race.

Ghaiyyath, like Love, had won three Group 1 races in a row this year before being defeated by Magical last out in the Irish Champion Stakes. Trainer Charlie Appleby is considering the Turf for this immensely talented runner.

Magical, who is best known in America for running second to Enable in the 2018 Turf, seems to be as good as ever after notching her seventh career Group 1 win. She is a lofty 10-1 because her status for this race is very uncertain. O'Brien already has Love entered and easily could decide to run Magical in the Filly and Mare Turf if she comes at all.

John Gosden's Logician will try to keep his perfect record intact when he makes his seventh career start in Friday's Cumberland Lodge Stakes. He has not faced the same company as Love, Ghaiyyath or Magical, but he has tremendous upside and has connections that enjoy running in the Breeders' Cup.

Sir Michael Stoute is another top European trainer who has enjoyed Breeders' Cup success. He could consider running the lightly raced Highest Ground in the Turf if he performs well in Saturday's Newmarket Darley.
