Breeders' Cup Turf 2017: 5 things handicappers should know
Check out these Breeders' Cup Turf 2017 tips from Horse Racing Nation's Mike Shutty, founder of the Super Screener.
The Turf runs Saturday, Nov. 4, at Del Mar, with a look at the field and odds available here.
• Of the 33 runnings of this race, 21 of them have been won by European-based starters. This is the race in which trainer Aidan O’Brien charges shine having won four of the last six editions. Sir Michael Stoute has also won this race four times over its history.
• In most years, two to three Euros comprise the Superfecta slots. When it isn’t a European horse in one of those slots, just look to a horse that last ran at Belmont Park. They just dominate the rest of the open Superfecta positions.
• A horse aged 6 or older has never won this race, and North American 3-year-olds are challenged as well, but don’t shy away from a European-based 3-year-old.
• There will be four or five Euros starting in this race, and they all look formidable against an OK U.S. contingent.
• On the Del Mar turf course, a premium will be placed on horses with that strong late turn of foot.
