Breeders' Cup Juvenile 2020: Latest Preview & Odds

Photo: Coady Photography

The Breeders' Cup Juvenile had been considered a one-horse race for the last few weeks, but that quickly changed with Essential Quality's dominant victory in the Grade 1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland.

Jackie's Warrior has company at the top of the division as Essential Quality received an 88 Beyer Speed Figure while beating a strong bunch.

Jackie's Warrior will have a chance to respond with a counterpunch when he runs in Saturday's Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park. Jackie's Warrior will be tested by Hopeful (G1) runner-up Reinvestment Risk and Iroquois runner-up Midnight Bourbon.

If he can emerge victorious, the table is set for a showdown between these two undefeated stars. Though the rest of the field has not shown the same star power early in their careers, many Juvenile probables have the upside to take another step forward.

Iroquois winner Sittin on Go and American Pharoah winner Get Her Number look poised to make the top two runners work for Breeders' Cup glory.

Chad Brown's Reinvestment Risk and Steve Asmussen's Midnight Bourbon would jump right to the top of the list if they were able to upset Jackie's Warrior in the Champagne.

Though Asmussen is loaded in the 2-year-old ranks, both trainers could use a strong performance in the Champagne after Brown's Founder and Asmussen's Calibrate, two of the most impressive debut winners at Saratoga, disappointed in the Breeders' Futurity, running fifth and sixth, respectively.

Additional Breeders' Cup Juvenile updates

• Robertino Diodoro told HRN on Tuesday that he plans to run Breeders' Futurity runner-up Keepmeinmind in the Juvenile and is considering running recent Keeneland allowance winner Dreamer's Disease as well.

• Brad Cox told HRN that Essential Quality came out of his Breeders' Futurity win in good order and is targeting the Juvenile next.

• Ryan Hanson confirmed to HRN that Best Pal winner Weston would bypass the Juvenile.
