Breeders' Cup: Saffron Beach is among 4 early scratches
Breeders' Cup on Thursday announced a series of scratches for next week's races at Keeneland, including European invader Saffron Beach from both the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf and Breeders' Cup Mile.
Owned by China Horse Club and trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam, Saffron Beach was in the main body of the field for both races with the Filly & Mare Turf being first preference. With the scratch of the multiple Group 1 winner, 3-year-old filly Mise En Scene, a Group 3 winner in Europe, will run in the Filly & Mare Turf.
Shirl's Speight now officially takes Saffron Beach's slot in the Mile. Also in the Mile, Group 1 winner Bayside Boy for trainer Roger Varian was scratched. That puts the 7-year-old gelding King Cause, recent winner of the Knickerbocker for trainer Michael Maker, into the field.
In the Juvenile Fillies, Naughty Gal for trainer D. Wayne Lukas was scratched. Moving into the field is Sabra Tuff, who most recently was fifth in the Alcibiades (G1) for trainer Dallas Stewart.
In the Juvenile Fillies Turf, Never Ending Story for trainer Aidan O'Brien has been removed. Filling her spot in the main body of the field is Knockyoursocksoff, who was recently second in the Jessamine (G2) at Keeneland for trainer Chris Block.
