Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile 2020: Latest Odds & Preview

Photo: Courtesy of NYRA

The Dirt Mile is always one of the most intriguing races of the Breeders' Cup weekend as it offers a mix of distance horses shortening up and sprinters stretching out.

One of the horses shortening up this year could be Art Collector. The Blue Grass winner is possible for the Dirt Mile following a 4th place finish in the Preakness.

His decision will have an impact on this field, but no decision will have a bigger influence on this race than Vekoma's. The Grade 1 Carter and Met Mile winner is leaning towards the Dirt Mile, but is also considering the Sprint. He is likely to go off as the favorite in either spot.

If he does choose the Dirt Mile, it will not be a walk in the park. Complexity looked fantastic defeating Code of Honor with a 110 Beyer Speed Figure in the Kelso and Mr Money regained his best form with a win in the Ack Ack.

Other talented distance runners such as, Midcourt, who are not quite up to the task of facing the monsters in this year's Breeders' Cup Classic, could opt for this spot instead.

Additional Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile updates

- Brad Cox has confirmed that Warrior's Charge and Owendale will not run in the Dirt Mile.

Mark Casse will have seven Breeders' Cup runners, including War of Will in the Dirt Mile.

Bret Calhoun will have three Breeders' Cup runners and will send out Mr Money and Silver Dust in the Dirt Mile.

- Grant Foster confirmed on Monday that Pirate's Punch would ship to Keeneland and Jorge Vargas Jr. will have the mount.

- Jack Sisterson told HRN on Monday that he will have two Breeders' Cup runners, Vexatious in the Distaff, and True Timber in the Dirt Mile.

- Michael McCarthy indicated on Tuesday that Pat Day Mile winner Rushie is on track for the Dirt Mile for his next start.

- Gustavo Delgado's team told HRN on Tuesday that Bodexpress will target an allowance race at Gulfstream Park West on October 17th and is unlikely for the Dirt Mile.

Below we take a look at the field that is starting to form for the Dirt Mile and with the best available odds for each runner. Note that Complexity is sitting as high as 16-1 as some books seem to have forgotten to update their odds following the Kelso. He is around 9-1 in most books.
