Breeders’ Cup Classic 2018 odds: Justify opens as favorite
The Wynn Las Vegas on Monday opened wagering for the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs with Justify a predictable, early 5-2 favorite.
Bob Baffert trains the Triple Crown winner along with the Wynn’s other top choices, multiple Grade 1 winner West Coast (7-1) and Collected (12-1).
Reigning 2-year-old champion Good Magic and Dubai World Cup winner Thunder Snow are also 12-1 with Accelerate, the last out winner of the Gold Cup at Santa Anita, next at 14-1.
Wagering opened following the first domestic “Win and You’re In” race toward the Classic. Doug O’Neill-trained Pavel shipped to take Churchill Downs’ Stephen Foster Handicap over the weekend and, as a result, is listed at 15-1 on the board.
The Wynn offers for wagering 68 horses in all, from stars of the 3-year-old class to older stalwarts that could meet Nov 3 at Churchill Downs.
Also on the championships’ Saturday card is the Breeders’ Cup Distaff, for which Stellar Wind (8-5) and Forever Unbridled (9-5) are on the board despite being out of training. Trainer Dallas Stewart confirmed Forever Unbridled has been bred to Medaglia d'Oro. Among known active fillies and mares listed, the 2017 Distaff runner-up Abel Tasman is the 3-1 top choice.
