Breeders' Cup: Civil Liberty will miss Juvenile with tendon swelling
Civil Liberty will miss the Breeders' Cup Juvenile because of swelling in an upper tendon, trainer Doug O'Neill said in an X post Tuesday.
"Thankfully, there are no tears or holes and he remains happy and healthy at Del Mar," O'Neill said in the post, adding that the Independence Hall colt is expected to return for a 3-year-old campaign.
Civil Liberty was a long shot for the Juvenile at 30-1 on the morning line. He is winless in three starts, including a fourth-place finish in the Grade 1 American Pharoah last out and a third-place effort in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) before that.
He worked at Del Mar on Sunday, going four furlongs from the gate in 46.8 seconds, fastest of 17 at the distance.
Purchased for $160,000 in May at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training, he is owned by Great Friends Stable and Mark Davis.
