Breeders' Cup 2018 odds: Catholic Boy offers value

While Catholic Boy may represent his crop's best shot at winning the 2018 Breeders' Cup Classic off his Travers Stakes victory, he remains at a higher price than rival 3-year-olds as of Wednesday in the Wynn Las Vegas racebook's future odds.

Both beaten Travers favorite Good Magic (10-1) and Hofburg (12-1), who missed the race due to a fever, offer below the 14-1 Catholic Boy, whose last two starts were won at the 1 1/4-mile distance.

The Wynn's odds reflect money taken and risk involved for the racebook, which likely saw both Good Magic and Hofburg heavily bet after scoring stakes wins in July. Catholic Boy is a newer commodity when it comes to contention for Churchill Downs' Nov. 3 Classic, as he raced mainly on turf before the Travers score.

The overall favorite is last out Pacific Classic winner Accelerate, who's down to 5-1 from his opening price of 14-1. West Coast is the second choice at 6-1 having not started since the Dubai World Cup, while top East Coast runner Diversify comes in at 7-1 on the board.

Also affected by last weekend's developments, Mendelssohn is 18-1 after his Travers runner-up finish and Elate is on the board at 30-1 with trainer Bill Mott mentioning the Classic as an option in addition to the Breeders' Cup Distaff.

The Wynn's fixed odds compare well to the final pari-mutuel future prices offered over the weekend that included fewer interests. There, Accelerate closed at 3-1 with Catholic Boy 7-1.
