Breaking Lucky breezed five furlongs in 1:00 2/5 Wednesday morning at Palm Beach Downs in preparation for a start in the $12 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Park Jan. 28.
The breeze was his fifth since Dec. 19 and his final official workout prior to his scheduled start in the 1 1/8-mile Pegasus.
“It was perfect. Everything has gone on schedule. The last work and this work, he never drank a drop of water,” trainer Reade Baker said. “This morning, I got his last quarter in 23-and-3 (seconds). We’re sitting where we want to be.”
The 5-year-old son of Looking At Lucky, who will represent Gunpowder Farms, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, R.A. Hill Stable and West Point Thoroughbreds in the world’s richest race, finished second behind Belmont Stakes winner Gun Runner in the Clark Handicap (G1) at Churchill Downs in his most recent start Nov. 25.

Breaking Lucky captured the 2016 Prince of Wales, the second leg of the Canada’s Triple Crown, defeating fellow Pegasus World Cup candidate Shaman Ghost by a neck in the 1 3/16-mile race at Fort Erie.
