Trainer Eddie Broome’s Brandy’s Girl beat the boys again Sunday at Gulfstream Park, capturing the $50,000 Jupiter Beach Handicap by 1 ¾ lengths.
Fresh off an optional claiming allowance victory last time out, Broome’s homebred 4-year-old filly made it back-to-back victories over males in Sunday’s five-furlong overnight handicap on turf with a gutsy late drive.
Ridden by Luca Panici, Brandy’s Girl stalked the pace set by R Limo Joe before making a five-wide move into the stretch and kicking in late to score her third stakes victory, first against the boys, in 15 career starts that have produced six wins.
Brandy’s Girl ran five furlongs on a course rated ‘good’ in 55.68 seconds as the 5-2 favorite. R Limo Joe, ridden by Edgard Zayas, held for second, 1 ¼ lengths ahead of Extravagant Kid and jockey Tyler Gaffalione.
“The rain all morning had me sweating it out, because she really doesn’t like soft turf. Apparently, it wasn’t that soft and it was good for her.”
Broome said Brandy’s Girl was hardly intimidated by her male rivals.

“She is just so aggressive all the time, She hardly every calms down. She just wants to do it,” Broome said.
