Bodecream rises to win Sam Houston's Texas Turf Mile

Bodecream got the perfect setup Sunday at Sam Houston and took advantage to win the $200,000 Texas Turf Mile Stakes.

French-bred Jack and Noah, the 8-5 favorite, tore off from the field of 3-year-olds and went an opening quarter-mile in :22.51. The Mark Casse trainee moved out to a wide lead on the backstretch, clicking off the half-mile in :46.23.

Jack and Noah ran out of gas in the early stretch under pressure from the Mike Maker-trained pair of Chimney Rock and Toma Todo. As those two moved on the pace setter, jockey Deshawn Parker urged Bodecream in the center of the track.

Bodecream motored by and scored by three lengths at for a late-running win that returned $21. The Danny Pish trainee covered the mile in 1:37.01.

Toma Todo ran second, with Pixelate third and Chimney Rock – 2019 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint runner-up – in fourth.

Bodecream’s victory Sunday came in his stakes debut. Red Lane Thoroughbreds campaigns the Kentucky-bred Bodemeister gelding.
