An impressive first-out maiden winner who exits a pair of Grade I stakes, trainer John Sadler’s Blameitonthelaw merits favoritism in Sunday’s $70,000 Speakeasy Stakes, which attracted a field of five juveniles at six furlongs.
A highly regarded Kentucky-bred colt by Blame (who was the only horse to ever defeat the mighty Zenyatta), Blameitonthelaw powered to a 4 ¼ length maiden special weight win going 5 ½ furlongs Aug. 2 at Del Mar and came back to run third, beaten eight lengths, by the undefeated Nyquist in the Grade I, seven furlong Del Mar Futurity Sept. 7 at odds of 5-2.
A well beaten fifth in the Grade I, 1 1/16 miles FrontRunner Stakes here at Santa Anita on Sept. 26, Blameitonthelaw cuts back in distance and will be facing what appears to be softer competition in the Speakeasy.  Owned by Doubledown Stables, Inc., he earned a lofty 88 Beyer Speed figure when breaking his maiden.
Named for Chicago Blackhawks’ star forward Jonathan Toews (pronounced TAZE), Bob Baffert’s Toews On Ice was a galloping 7 ½ length winner of the restricted Barretts Juvenile Stakes going 6 ½ furlongs at Los Alamitos on Sept. 20.  As such, the Kentucky-bred colt by Archarcharch is the lone stakes winner in the field.
With a win and two thirds, Toews On Ice has show good speed in all three of his starts, which were all sprints.  Owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman, Toews On Ice will be ridden for the first time on Sunday by Victor Espinoza, as regular rider Martin Garcia is committed to ride at Belmont Park.
A well beaten fourth in his debut going 6 ½ furlongs at Del Mar Aug. 29, trainer Mark Glatt’s Street Vision stalked the pace and went on to an impressive 1 ¾ length maiden special weight score here on Sept. 27, earning a Beyer Speed fig of 87.  Owned by Norman Stables, LLC and Cory Wagner, Street Vision will be ridden back by leading man Rafael Bejarano and he appears primed for a top effort.

The complete field for the Speakeasy, to be run as the second race on a nine-race card Sunday, with jockeys and weights in post position order:  Blameitonthelaw, Tyler Baze, 118; Street Vision, Rafael Bejarano, 118; Big Finish, Ry Eikleberry, 118; Xingontothebone, Edwin Maldonado, 118, and Toews On Ice, Victor Espinoza, 122.
