Birdstone just gained a large dose of respect as a young sire with Mine That Bird's stunning victory in the 135th Kentucky Derby.

Birdstone, who won the Belmont and Travers stakes when he was a 3-year-old, is a son of 1996 Derby winner Grindstone. He finished eighth in the Derby, but those graded stakes victories demonstrate his penchant for such classic distances as 11/4 miles or longer.
