Bet these 3 Preakness undercard long shots Saturday

All eyes will be on Pimlico on Saturday with the Preakness Stakes highlighting a 14-race card. With multiple singles at potentially low prices on tap, it is imperative to find the long shots that will fall through the wagering cracks in those races that are wide-open. Below I analyze three long shots who will outrun their odds and light up the tote board at Pimlico on the Preakness Stakes undercard.

Race 2

Fivecommatwo, 20-1. This mare has been consistently competitive at this level, but is being ignored on the morning-line based on her poor last race. That effort was her first race in over five months and the first time she sprinted on the turf since 2023. She is not a turf sprinter as this comeback effort was simply a prep to prepare her to stretch back out again on Saturday. Look for a return to this mare's best form at a big price at a distance that better suits her.

Race 8

Retribution, 12-1. This morning-line is much too high for this colt as Irad Ortiz Jr. takes the call. He was sharp in his debut win and returned to run a decent third when he did not have the cleanest of trips in his second start. He should be able to sit a nice trip outside the speed and has the upside needed the take another step forward for Cherie DeVaux. There should be plenty of pace to flatter his strong late kick.

Race 12

Crystal Quest, 10-1. Many of this colt's best races have come over a wet turf course. With rain in the forecast, he should get the surface condition that he prefers on Saturday. He was ultra impressive in his comeback race at Tampa Bay Downs and looks like a horse that has blossomed between his 3- and 4-year-old seasons. A repeat of his last effort will put him right in the mix, but he will likely be ignored on the tote board as many will look at that race as a fluke. With a pair of bullet works, I think this horse has turned the corner and is set for his career best effort on Saturday.
