City of Troy, who would make his first start on dirt in the Breeders' Cup Classic, was ranked no. 2 in the latest rankings of the world's best racehorses, the final rankings ahead of the world championships on Nov. 1 and 2 at Del Mar.

The 3-year-old Justify colt has won his last three starts, the Epsom Derby, the Coral-Eclipse and the Juddmonte International last out. The Breeders' Cup also would be his first U.S. start.

Laurel River, who hasn't raced since winning the Dubai World Cup (G1) in March, remained in first place in the rankings.

The only U.S.-based horse in the top 10 is Fierceness, the 2024 juvenile colt champion and winner of the Jim Dandy (G2) and Travers (G1) in his last two starts. He also is expected in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

The rankings are compiled by the world’s best racehorse rankings committee and published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.
