Which horse has the best
pedigree to handle twelve furlongs in the final leg of the Triple Crown on
Saturday, June 9 at Belmont Park? My Belmont Stakes alphabetical list continues
with Guyana Star Dweej.
Guyana Star Dweej’s sire Eddington
(by Unbridled) raced 17 times from 2003-05. He was on the Triple Crown trail in
2004, finishing 3rd in the G3 Gotham, G1 Wood Memorial, and G1 Preakness,
and 4th in the Belmont Stakes. He blossomed as a 4yo, winning the G2
Gulfstream Park Handicap and G1 Pimlico Special. He earned more than $1.2
million in his career and is probably best known as the sire of multiple graded
stakes winner Secret Circle. His current stud fee is $5k.
Eddington’s sire Unbridled (by Fappiano) banked more than $4.4 million in his career, winning
such prestigious races as the G1 Florida Derby, G1 Kentucky Derby, and G1 BC
Classic in 1990. He finished 4th in the G1 Belmont Stakes.
Eddington’s dam Fashion Star (by
Chief’s Crown) won 5 of 19 starts and placed in a few graded turf routes.
Guyana Star Dweej’s mother Special
Feeling (by Pine Bluff) lost all nine career starts in 1998.
Pine Bluff (by Danzig) won the G1 Preakness in 1992 and finished 3rd
in the G1 Belmont Stakes that year. The leading sire in Arkansas in 2008 has
sired many stakes winners including grade one winner I Ain’t Bluffing.
Special Feeling’s dam Specialization (by Princely Native) captured
1 of 15 starts in the early 1980’s. She is the granddam of 1994 BC Classic
winner Concern.
Guyana Star Dweej has been
part of the exacta in his last five starts but he was racing in the maiden
claiming ranks in February. He lacks the class to make an impact in the Belmont
Stakes but he does own a decent pedigree.
