Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The Grade 1, $750,000 Belmont Derby Invitational will be run Friday at Saratoga as part of the Belmont fourth of July racing festival. The Belmont Derby is the first race in the turf triple in New York for 3-year-olds, which also includes the Saratoga Derby (G1) and the Jockey Club Derby (G3).

A field of eight accepted invitations to run in the 1 1/8-mile stakes race on the turf course at Saratoga. Among the eight are six stakes winners, including one with a Grade 1 victory and with Grade 3 wins. Interestingly, the fourth and 18-place finishers from the Kentucky Derby show up in this race.

Here is a full-field analysis for the Belmont Derby with morning-line odds from the Horse Racing Nation staff. Scheduled as race 9 of 11, post time is set for 5:45 p.m. EDT.

The Florida-bred broke his maiden for a $50,000 tag on the synthetic track at Gulfstream Park. From there he moved onto the turf and made five starts in stakes races in Florida. Tank won his three most recent races beating state-breds at Tampa Downs in March and then twice at Gulfstream, and all of his wins were on the lead or pressing the pace. He will try nine furlongs for the first time. Toss.

After a winter layoff, New Century was fifth in a Group 3 at Newmarket and then transferred to the U.S. barn of Brendan Walsh.
