Belle Gallantey Seeks Redemption in Ladies 'Cap

Prior to the Distaff, the daughter of After Market became a two-time Grade 1 winner when she took the Beldame by 8 ¼ lengths on September 27 at Belmont Park. Earlier in the year, the chestnut mare took the Grade 1 Delaware Handicap by 2 ¾ lengths.

"She's coming along good; the trip to California [for the Breeders' Cup] and the sales took a little out of her, but she's training good," said Rodriguez. "Maybe she needed a race [in the Affectionately]; I'm hoping she comes back to what she is. I know she can compete with these horses, she just has to bring her 'A' race back. This is probably going to be the last race she runs, but if she wins, hopefully we can keep her in training."

Irad Ortiz, Jr. will ride Belle Gallantey, the 7-5 morning-line favorite, from post 4.

At 9-5 on the morning line, Penwith will go out for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin and Godolphin Racing. The daughter of Bernardini flashed potential as a 2-year-old, finishing third in the Grade 2 Demoiselle at Aqueduct, but was disappointing at the start of her 3-year-old campaign.

After a 4 ½-month layoff, the daughter of Bernardini returned in style at Saratoga Race Course, where she dominated a second-level optional claimer on August 15. The McLaughlin trainee followed that performance with a third-place finish in the Grade 2 Indiana Oaks, and then closed into a slow pace to finish fourth in the Grade 3 Comely - her final start of 2014.

In her most recent start, the 4-year-old bay filly was beaten by a nose in the Affectionately after having led for much of the way.

Penwith, who is coupled with new addition Divided Attention, will break from the rail with Fernando Jara aboard.

Divided Attention, also trained by McLaughlin for Godolphin, finished third, beaten three lengths, in the Affectionately. Dylan Davis will be aboard the daughter of A.P. Indy from post 2.

Moment in Dixie, 4-1 on the morning line, enters the Ladies off a runner-up finish in the Wintergreen Stakes on January 3 at Turfway Park. Prior to the Wintergreen, the 6-year-old mare finished third in the Grade 3 Go For Wand Handicap on November 28 at Aqueduct.

Trained by Jimmy Toner for Phillips Racing Partnership, Moment in Dixie will break from post 5 with Manny Franco in the irons.

Rounding out the field are Holiday's Jewel, winner of a second-level optional claimer on December 28 at the Big A, and Shayjolie, fourth-place finisher in the Affectionately.
