It took a sustained close to run down Newspaperofrecord, but the Brad Cox-trained Beau Recall did just that to win the $500,000 Grade 2 Distaff Turf Mile for a second straight year on Saturday at Churchill Downs.

A 6-year-old mare by Sir Prancelot, Beau Recall was ridden by Manny Franco, who is set to ride Kentucky Derby favorite Tiz the Law later on Saturday's program. She sat in fifth for much of the race, but then started to make up ground on the far turn.

With a furlong to go, Beau Recall swooped past favored Newspaperofrecord and drew off to win by two lengths.

“I just relaxed, let her get comfortable,” Franco said. "When I put on the pressure, she took off”

Beau Recall is owned by Slam Dunk Racing and Medallion Racing. The win was a repeat performance from last year's Distaff Turf Mile and her first victory since winning the Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2) at Del Mar in Aug. 2019.

Splits for the race were :23.99, :47.93, 1:11.82 and 1:23.38. The winning time was 1:35.39.

Beau Recall returned $18.80 for the win.
