Bearpath, who stumbled approaching the stretch for the initial time in Friday’s John’s Call presented by Sportech and unseated his rider, fractured his left front shoulder in the incident and his prognosis is day-to-day, trainer Ian Wilkes said Saturday.
“He’s doing OK,” Wilkes said. “He’s resting and we’re taking it day by day. We’re watching him very carefully. I don’t want the horse to suffer, but I’d like to save him if we can.”
A 5-year old son of Dynaformer owned by Lothenbach stables, Bearpath won the Grade 3 Pan American Stakes at Gulfstream Park last March and was second in 2010’s Grade 1 Sword Dancer at Saratoga .
