Richard, Bertram and Elaine Klein’s Be Me, settled just behind the early leaders while racing along the rail early, came up to challenge for command in mid-stretch and drew clear late for a 1 3/4-length score in Sunday’s featured $47,000 allowance race at Fair Grounds.

Ridden by Corey Lanerie and trained by Steve Margolis, the 4-year-old Alphabet Soup gelding toured the six furlongs in 1:11.79, increased his career earnings to $69,128 with his second win in 10 lifetime starts and returned mutuels of $11.60, $4.80 and $3.20.

Diana and David Garner’s Perfect Easter alternated for the early lead during early splits of 22.58 and 46.54, could not stay with the winner late but gamely held the place, finishing a half-length to the good of Louie Roussel III’s Sorrel of the Sea.

Perfect Easter paid $4.60 and $2.60 while Sorrel of the Sea returned $4.60 in the show spot.
