Bayerd, winner of the $250,000 Springboard Mile in 2014, will return to Remington Park for his first local race since winning the track’s top 2-year-old event. The 4-year-old colt is entered into a turf sprint, a $40,000 allowance race, this Friday night.

Owned by Clark Brewster of Tulsa, Okla. and trained by Hall of Fame conditioner Steve Asmussen, Bayerd has made 15 starts since winning the Springboard Mile by a head over Shotgun Kowboy in 2014. Shotgun Kowboy went on to win the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby last year, Remington Park’s top Thoroughbred stakes race.

Bayerd has posted 14 top-three finishes from his 20 career attempts with four victories. However, he has just one triumph since winning the Springboard Mile at the end of his 2-year-old campaign. The Kentucky-bred by Speightstown from the Cherokee Run mare Cherokee Jewel, will be ridden for the first time on Friday night by Iram Diego. Bayerd has earned $530,019 in his career and is the leading money-maker in the field on Friday night.

The eighth race on Friday, the five-furlong turf sprint with Bayerd, is the feature race on the nine-race program. The field, by post position and program number, with trainers and jockeys:

1.    Hammer the Bay: Darrell Bravenec, Quincy Hamilton

2.    Meme Jo: George Bryant, Danny Sorenson

3.    Googleado: Donnie Von Hemel, Luis Quinonez

4.    Wings Locked Up: Clinton Stuart, Glenn Corbett

5.    Bayerd: Steve Asmussen, Iram Diego

6.    Perfect To Please: Veronica Griggs, David Cabrera

9.    Frontier Warrior: Federico Villafranco, Ramon Vazquez

10. Medal Of Courage: Karl Broberg, C.J. McMahon

Imahit has been entered into the race as a “main-track only” participant and will compete only if the race moves off the turf to the main track. Local forecasts in Oklahoma City currently call for a 30% chance of rain on Friday.

The Remington Park Thoroughbred Season moves into its regular Wednesday thru Saturday night schedule this week. The first race nightly is at 7pm-central.
