Barn's star fillies bring home the prosciutto

Trainer Doug O'Neill was in the midst of a European vacation with his family yesterday, in Italy and headed for Greece.

Back here, his thoroughbred stable, directed by brother Dennis O'Neill and assistant Leandro Mora, was having a bellissimo time winning the two $100,000 stakes races that determine the 2-year-old champions of the Hollywood Park meeting, which enters its final week on Thursday.

In only the second start of her career, the filly Necessary Evil won the Hollywood Juvenile Championship, going wire-to-wire against four colt rivals and prevailing by three lengths under jockey Joel Rosario. It was the third win in as many races to start the day for Rosario, a 24-year-old native of the Dominican Republic who is the leading rider of the meeting and is bidding for his first Southern California circuit title.
