Drawing Away Stable and David Jacobson’s Balance of Power sat last through the early stages before angling out for the drive and wearing down Pants on Fire in the final strides to take the Grade 3, $150,000 Iselin Stakes at Monmouth Park before a Sunday afternoon crowd of 13,256.

Jockey Chuck C. Lopez and Balance of Power went the mile and an eighth over a fast main track in 1:48 3/5 and returned $17, $5.80 and $2.60.  Pants on Fire, who took the lead turning for home, had to settle for second, a half-length behind the winner, paying $2.80 and $2.10.  The exacta returned $46.40.  It was another 2 ¾ lengths back to post-time favorite, who paid $2.10 to show in the field reduced by scratches to five runners.

“There was no real plan.  I left it up to Chuckie (jockey Lopez),” said co-owner and trainer Jacobson.  “We had been targeting this race for a while.  He beat some real nice horses today.  Pants on Fire and Valid are real solid animals.  I was real impressed with how he ran today.”

A 4-year-old gelding by Silver Train from the Woodman mare Woodman’s Dancer, Balance of Power has won six of his 16 lifetime starts, good for earnings $233,128.
