BC Classic odds: Cyberknife joins 24 other horses in futures

Cyberknife’s victory in the Grade 1, $1,017,500 Haskell Stakes automatically qualified him for the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic. It also put his name into futures betting for the Nov. 5 race at Keeneland.

Now a two-time Grade 1 winner, the 3-year-old Gun Runner colt trained by Brad Cox opened at 16-1 at the Costa Rica-based bookmaker Bovada.

Those were the same odds carried Wednesday morning by Haskell runner-up Taiba, another 3-year-old colt by Gun Runner who shortened from last week’s price of 20-1.

Jack Christopher, who suffered his first loss by finishing third in the Haskell, drifted from 8-1 to 20-1. Since the 3-year-old Munnings colt’s four wins have been at distances of a mile or less, trainer Chad Brown said “I’ll cut him back” from Saturday’s 1 1/8-mile Haskell distance. That would suggest Jack Christopher might be aimed from the Breeders’ Cup Classic toward the Dirt Mile.

Flightline, the undefeated 4-year-old colt who has raced only four times, remained the futures favorite at 5-2 in the international market. He is being pointed by trainer John Sadler toward the Pacific Classic (G1) on Sept. 3 at Del Mar.

With the addition of Cyberknife, 25 horses are listed by Bovada. They include injured Belmont Stakes winner Mo Donegal, even though his trainer Todd Pletcher said three weeks ago that he would not race in the Breeders’ Cup.
