Atreides to Hill ‘n’ Dale for 2015 Breeding Season
Stonestreet
and Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms announced today that Atreides, the royally-bred
multiple stakes winning son of Medaglia D’Oro, out of multiple Grade 1
winner and outstanding young producer Dream Rush, will retire to Hill
‘n’ Dale for the 2015 breeding season, due to a tendon injury.
“Atreides represents the very best of the Stonestreet breeding program.
His dam Dream Rush is one of the most important producers in America
today, already the dam of G-1 winner Dreaming of Julia, Atreides, and
the exciting recent maiden winner, Perchance,” said Stonestreet owner
Barbara Banke. “We are, of course, partial to Medaglia D’ Oro because of
Rachael Alexandra, and his ability to sire Grade 1 winners. Atreides
was a brilliant racehorse and we will support him with top mares. I
don’t think we have raised a horse with more potential as a racehorse or
sire prospect.“
"This was one fantastic racehorse with looks, brilliance, physique and
pedigree. We don’t sell these kind when they retire, we partner with
farms that make stallions. There was no end to his ability.” said
Stonestreet Racing Manager, John Moynihan.
Atreides made his debut in July, where he won at first asking by 5 ¼
lengths, earning both a 105 Beyer Speed Figure and TDN Rising Star
status. His final time of 108.69 was .57 seconds off the track record
for 6 furlongs at Gulfstream Park. He followed that victory with a
3-length allowance win at 6 ½ furlongs, posting a 102 Beyer. Atreides
won his stakes debut by an astonishing 17 ½ lengths, posting a 105
Beyer, while winning geared down. His 4½ length victory in the Aventura
Handicap kept his unbeaten record at Gulfstream intact, but
unfortunately a tendon injury forced his retirement to stud. This is the
same tendon that showed some heat following his unplaced effort while
being bumped hard in the Indiana Derby (G2).
“ Atreides was the fastest and most talented colt I have trained. He
could sit and wait or go to the front any time he wanted. He had the
kind of speed superstars have. He destroyed fields and was absolutely a
horse with G-1 ability. While I am sad he retires prematurely, I look
forward to training offspring of a super talented horse.” said Marty
Wolfson.
“We launched Medaglia D’ Oro, and were co-owners of Dream Rush, so this
is like a coming home for us. I love everything about this horse - just
watch his race replays and you know he was a star. Along with Maclean’s
Music, I believe we have two brilliant young sire prospects, and I am
appreciative of the confidence Stonestreet has shown by partnering with
us in making these stallions. We will support Atreides with top mares
from both our programs.” said John G. Sikura.
Atreides will stand for $6.500 LF, and is available for inspection at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm during the Keeneland January sale.
