Aterradora is euthanized after injury in Saratoga's Lake George
During the running of the Grade 3 Lake George on Saturday at Saratoga, the Mike Maker-trained Aterradora was pulled up by jockey Ricardo Santana Jr. in the gallop out after finishing fifth. The horse was attended to immediately by on-track veterinarians, who transported Aterradora to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Radiographs taken Saturday revealed a slab fracture of the right knee, which was followed by a CT scan to allow for surgical planning. At the time of surgery the extent of the injury was found to be more severe and complicated than previously identified. As a result, and upon the recommendation of attending veterinarians, Aterradora was humanely euthanized Monday at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital.
Aterradora was a 3-year-old Ireland-bred filly owned by Pure Vida Invetsments. She had a record of 8: 1-3-0.
Aterradora's fatality is the only one that has occurred at Saratoga since the beginning of the summer meet on July 10. There have been two equine fatalities at the course during training, National Secret and Dazzle d’Oro.
