Assiniboia Downs has been experiencing a stellar season to date but are taking nothing for granted. The track is now announcing a purse increase across the board to reward the loyal horse people that are such a critical part of that success.

Effective Monday, purses have been increased in every category. Highlights include a 25 percent increase in maiden allowance races to $20,000, a 20 percent bump for open allowance races to $24,000 and the new minimum "open" stakes race has been elevated to $40,000.

“Our community of owners, trainers and jockeys continue to be so supportive of the racing program here,” said CEO Darren Dunn. “We are happy to be in a position that we can introduce these increases to the purses. We fully appreciate what it takes to put on a season of competitive racing and we look forward to continuing to work together to deliver the best show we possibly can.”

The Downs has been experiencing wagering growth of more than 60 percent in the first part of the season. The competitive racing along with the player-focused initiatives of reduced takeouts and the free Player Portal have been attributed to that success.

The Jackpot Pick 5 carryover is now $319,000 and growing. If the jackpot is not won by a single winner before the Aug. 1 Manitoba Derby program, it will be set as a mandatory payout, which is expected to see wagering of more than $1 million.

Assiniboia Downs racing continues Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights with first post at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
