The last two Longacres Mile winners take on the defending champion in the $50,000 Seattle Handicap on Sunday, May 16.
The 72nd running of the six-furlong Seattle is the first stakes for older handicap stars and the first stop en route to the 75th Longacres Mile (GIII) on Sunday, Aug. 22.
Assessment capped his Horse of the Meeting campaign with a dramatic victory over Awesome Gem in the 2009 Longacres Mile, finishing the season with a 7-4-3-0 record and earnings of $257,000. Assessment sustained a season-ending ankle injury in early September, preventing a trip to the Breeders' Cup, but trainer Howard Belvoir said the gelding has trained well and is ready for another big season.
