Arrogate ‘happy coming off the track’ in latest workout
Breeders’ Cup Classic contender Arrogate continued his preparations Tuesday for the Nov. 4 race, credited with a five-furlong workout in 1:00.20 at Santa Anita Park while going in company with Bob Baffert stablemate Uninvited.
The trainer Baffert told the Daily Racing Form's Jay Privman that Arrogate, expected as a top contender for the Classic along with Gun Runner, will work three more times before the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar. At least two of those moves will happen at Santa Anita.
“He went nice and easy, just cruising around there,” Baffert told DRF. “The track is deep this morning. He went really nice — was happy coming off the track.
“He’s just doing everything really nice, wanting to do it, switched leads right on cue.”
Arrogate's workout was the fastest of 31 reported at that distance as of 12 p.m. ET.
The 4-year-old son of Unbridled's Song is 1-for-3 at Del Mar after defeated in his last two starts there, first with a 4th-place effort July 22 in the Grade II TVG San Diego Handicap before 2nd on Aug. 19 in the Grade I TVG Pacific Classic won by Collected.
Baffert also has Collected, Grade I Awesome Again winner Mubtaahij and Grade I Pennsylvania Derby winner West Coast pointing to the $6 million Classic, a race he has won three straight years — most recently with Arrogate.
